Studies of the origin and chemical nature of humus have been carried out at the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station, during more than fifteen years. In this work, the author has been assisted by some twenty-five research workers, most of whom have obtained their advanced degrees from Rutgers University, using some phase of the study of humus as the thesis subject.
